I traveled to churches in Summerfield, FL, and played at "Ignite the Church" conference in Orlando. It was a blessing to share my music ministry at Hope Lutheran Church, Christ Lutheran Church, and The First Congregational Church, all in Summerfield. I'm always amazed and reminded that music is powerful- - - when words can't express how we feel, God gives us the gift of music. I also had the opportunity to visit with friends I had not seen in years, who came to my concerts. I am excited about Christmas 2015! I have a new Christmas CD coming out in just a few weeks! It was recorded in Nashville, except for the choir and a few of my lead vocals, which were recorded here in NJ. It has been an exciting year working with producer, Dave Bechtel, a real talent, who lives in Thompson Station, right outside of Nashville. The music team he put together for this project was phenomenal! These musicians have recorded and performed with all the great artists, spanning the Christian and pop music world. Artists such as Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Chris Tomlin, Third Day, Stevie Wonder, and Whitney Houston, to name a few. I will be posting the release date of the CD. I hope it will enrich your life, and make Christmas more meaningful for all who listen!Nancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/35889782015-03-10T14:17:05-04:002015-03-10T14:17:05-04:00Looking Ahead! Spring- 2015It's been a while since I've written on my blog. With the death of my parents within a year, 2013-2014, life has been difficult, emotional, and transitional. We all go through those darker times-- when we feel empty, lost, and afraid. Yet, Christ will meet us there, in those moments of doubt and fear. He is always with us, in our sorrow and in our grief. When we start to feel alive again, we see the light ahead of us. There is a rainbow of hope waiting for us. Jesus promised He will never leave us or forsake us. The audience loved our music, and the proceeds were given to LOVE, INC, Love in the Name of Christ. This is the same organization my Count Basie concerts have benefited. LOVE, INC helps the poor and the needy throughout the United States. My other events this summer have also been uplifting and meaningful. Musicians, John Lucas, drums, and Adrien Synnott, bass, have also joined me, to play for this wonderful church. This year, in 2012, marks our 9th year, in sharing my music ministry at St. Mark's! The scripture reading focused on John 15: 1-6:

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

I chose the Casting Crowns song, "If We Are the Body", to support the Gospel reading from John. If we are the branches, than we are also the body of Christ - - His hands, His feet - -we need to be serving Jesus in all that we say and do.

My roots are there -- I remember going to the library in my youth, writing term papers, and taking out many books! They now have a wonderful recital room, and schedule many concerts throughout the year. The concerts are free and open to the public. Since it was Veteran's Day weekend, I included songs, such as my song, "Thank You", dedicated to our armed forces. Today, I gave a concert at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. The church planned a great afternoon - -a free, pot-luck lunch was served, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. My concert began at 2:00 PM. After the concert, dessert was served. I included my songs, "Covenant Love", "Send Me", "Worship the Lord", "If You Love Me", and "Divine Union". I dedicated the concert to Adeline Stenger -- she died a few years ago, and I sang at her funeral. The funeral was held at this church. I met Pastor Waid, and said I would like to come back, and give a concert. Today was the day! Adeline's husband, Bill, was there in a wheel chair. He had a stroke a few years ago. During the silent prayer, I could hear people crying. I never know which songs will have an impact on someone's heart and faith. This congregation is very spiritual, and their sincerity and passion for Christ, is evident. I enjoyed every minute of the concert, and the fellowship before, and afterwards. God was with us, and I felt His presence. This Christian community, founded by the Methodist Church, offers peace and relaxation, right by the ocean. While discovering a rainbow, right above the water, I was thinking about rainbows symbolizing hope. I wanted to share a poem I wrote about my experience:

Chasing Rainbows

Instantly, our eyes were pulled upward,
As we caught a glimpse of the colorful arc
Above us.
A gift from God---
The perfect spectrum of colors:
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue,
Indigo and violet.
Not all colors could be seen.
But witnessing such beauty,
Delighted our souls,
And our senses.
God's plan...
The rainbow
Would not be seen on sunny days---
Only when it rains.
It's the same in our own lives;
When clouds come into our lives,
Rainbows brighten our days,
And color our lives with hope.
Today, we were chasing rainbows - -
Hoping they would not fade into the mist,
But remain in the sky
For us to enjoy,
And marvel at its beauty.
From the streets, to the boardwalk,
To the balcony,
We caught as many glimpses
Of this natural wonder,
As we could.
To our delight,
A second rainbow appeared,
Slowly fading,
But enough to see this
Incredible sight.
Lord, help us to never stop
Chasing rainbows.
To strive for hope, and peace,
In a broken world.
To bring rainbows of love,
Hope, and joy,
To a world where darkness
Covers so many lives.
Chasing rainbows,
And catching its beauty,
To pass on to all the world...

Nancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/1090662011-08-15T07:50:00-04:002011-08-15T07:50:00-04:00Choral Workshop in Manchester, NJ
I had a great experience working with the choir at the Community Baptist Church, in Manchester, NJ. The world came together, as we celebrated the Royal Wedding, and at the same time, prayed for those who lost loved ones in the southern US, from the deadly tornadoes. The joys and sorrows of life --- it gave me faith once again, in our human family, that we can celebrate and pray together, at the same time. And our faith in our Lord, helps us through the hard times, when they come. I was reminded today, of Jesus' Resurrection, and His power and might. There is nothing that can separate us from His love. Here in the Northeast, we have been bombarded with snowstorms, ice, and freezing rain. Yet, I'm looking forward to the year ahead, for my concerts, worship services, and recording. This Monday, I go back into the studio to finish editing and mixing my Count Basie Christmas concerts. I love being in the studio! It's similar to the feeling you have when you go to a movie. You can "get away from it all", and it's just you, the people you are with, and the movie screen. The focus is on the movie, and the cares of the world are put on hold. In the recording studio, the experience is similar. I am shut off from the world for a while, and I can focus on my music. I've had times of immense joy listening to a song, a word, or a phrase. I've also had moments of a "meltdown" - a note, chord, or song, touched my heart so deeply, I just broke down and cried. Even there, I can grow closer to God, in that space and time. Times are still hard for many people, and I pray that my music ministry can help others. Thank you all, for your continued prayers and support... Nancy Nancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/617022011-01-16T18:30:00-05:002011-01-16T18:30:00-05:00From Tragedy to LifeOut of the horror and tragedy of the Arizona Shootings, are miracles and signs of hope. Congresswoman "Gabby", opens her eyes, moves her legs, and is taken off the critical list. A miracle right before our eyes! A little girl's life was saved in New England, by Christina Green's parents, who donated Christina's organs to the girl, struggling to survive. They can't wait to meet this little girl, who will live, because of this gift of life. Christina was the 9 year old girl, who was killed in the shooting. Not only have we seen miracles come out of this tragedy- - we have also seen how a 13 year old boy in Australia, sacrificed his own life, to save his mother and his brother. Unfortunately, his mother was swept away by the currnet, along with the boy. But his brother did survive.

God is always with us, no matter what happens in life. He will turn our darkest hours, into miracles. He will give us signs of hope, even in desperate times. There is more to life, than what we see. The weather has been hot and sunny - - in the 90's every day! I don't mind continuing with summer weather-- it was time to bring out the shorts and flip-flops once again! When I watched the sunrise from my window this morning, I took a picture of the sun. It was in the shape of a star, and reminded me of the Star of Bethlehem. It was very meaningful! I love it when there are signs of God's presence in our lives, when we least expect it. I wasn't expecting to see the "star"-- it was so symbolic. I had a great time visiting with Lynn Eubanks. She treated me to lunch at the "Purple Cow" in Little Rock. Afterwards, she gave me a tour of her church, Fellowship Bible Church. What a ministry! They built a new campus a few years ago. They have grown to 6,000 members. It's not the numbers that is inspiring, as much as it is their commitment to Christ. There is a beautiful, large Cross in the center of the church -- symbolizing that Christ is the center of our lives. That said it all to me! Today, I drove 3 hours to Cherokee Village. It is absolutely stunning here! It is Nature's paradise-- -rolling hills, lakes, streams, water falls, as well as, peace and serenity. Tomorrow night is my concert at Peace Lutheran Church. I have been following Amy Grant for many years, and she has been a big influence on my music. I love Amy's songs, for her honesty and sincerity in her writing. Dr. Charles Stanley gave a great message at the Worship Service in the Great Auditorium yesterday. He talked about being in "bondage" to the many things in life, that pull us away from God. Jealousy, resentments, anger, greed, and fear, are just some of the examples of "bondage". We've heard this before -- to "let go"-- but it's a message I know I need to hear time and time again. They asked me to speak and sing about "grace". I focused a lot on the story behind "Amazing Grace", and how John Newton wrote the words. John was a slave trader, in the 1700's. After almost losing his life at sea on one of the slave ships, he turned his life over to Christ, and accepted God's "amazing grace". What a powerful story of faith! One woman spoke about her battle with breast cancer, yet, that experience made her faith in God stronger. She said, as crazy as it sounded, it was a blessing to have had the cancer. It made her faith stronger. I am alway inspired when people share their faith. We continued with Contemporary Christian songs, than I sang "How Great Thou Art", Sandy Patti's arrangement. It is the most beautiful arrangement of that classic hymn I have ever heard. I get tears in my eyes, every time I sing it.

Here is a YouTube about the woman, Miep Gies, who died recently, at age 100, who helped the Frank's hide from the Nazi's. www.youtube.com/watch The video also reviews the events leading up to Anne Frank's death, and about her diary. I have been to Holland, and walked through the Annex, where the Frank's and their friends, hid. I will never forget it. There was a long line tourists, waiting to enter the Annex. Noone said a word - -you could hear a pin drop. Over one million and a half children died during the Holocaust. There were many brave people, like Miep Gies, who risked their lives to save the Jews. A Good Samaritan, doing an unimaginable task. Nancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/675722010-04-10T11:20:00-04:002010-04-10T11:20:00-04:00Help Is On the WayHi, friends! I came across an exciting and meaningful worship musical, called Help Is On the Way. I thought it would be great, to do this with King of Kings Choir, at my church. The theme is trusting God, and keeping the faith, even in troubled times. There is so much going on around us- - people losing their jobs, the loss of loved ones, natural disasters -- it's hard to keep our faith, when everything around us is falling apart. The songs in this musical presentation, give hope and encouragement. You will feel uplifted, knowing Christ is always with us. We are never alone. His love is stronger than any problem we may face. You can check out my Calendar page, and the flyer attached. The date of the concert will be Sunday, April 18th, at 3:00 PM, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 250 Harmony Rd., Middletown, NJ. I hope to see you there! Keep the faith!!! NancyNancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/664442010-04-06T12:10:00-04:002010-04-06T12:10:00-04:00Easter ReflectionsHe is Risen! I remember Pastor Hanson saying that Easter is much more meaningful, when we experience Good Friday. When we take Christ's journey to the Cross, than witness his suffering and death, we rejoice even more, on Easter Sunday. This year, I sang the song, "Because He Lives", by the Gaither's. In past years, I sang "I Know My Redeemer Liveth", from the Messiah. Both pieces are beautiful. But this year, I felt closer to the Gaither song. "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow...all fear is gone...because I know he holds the future...and life is worth the living, just because He lives... If you are feeling that you can't face another day, that your life is full of fear, and that your future is bleak and uncertain, know that Christ is alive, and He lives to help you through all of life's struggles. You are never alone -- He lives!!! Nancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/646602010-03-28T12:04:54-04:002010-03-28T12:04:54-04:00Haiti Benefit Concert - $8,000 Raised! The Haiti Benefit Concert went well tonight! The event was sponsored by Pilgrim Baptist Church. The church's pastor, Rev. Terrence Porter, envisioned and organized the event. Helping partners included: Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association Mass Choir; Northeast Signature Properties; Lunch Break of Red Bank; Aslan Youth Ministries; Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.; Red Bank Regional High School; Monmouth County Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Parker Health Clinic, Red Bank School District and the Pilgrim Community Development Corporation.

The Red Bank Middle School Auditorium provided a professional theater setting. I performed my song, "Song For Haiti", and also sang the timeless orchestral arrangement of "How Great Thou Art". Other performers included Holiday Express, The Anointed Sons, The Sea Coast Mass Choir, the Emmanuel Youth Choir, and many others. It was an awesome night! We raised over $8,000.00 for Haiti! A great crowd, for a great cause! Nancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/636612010-03-22T20:35:00-04:002010-03-22T20:35:00-04:00HeroI went to a wake tonight, for Paul Seitz, 51 years old, who died of cancer. Paul and his family used to live in my neighborhood, when we were kids. All these years have gone by, since the Seitz family moved. When I heard Paul had died, I couldn't remember what he looked like. But when I arrived at the funeral home, and saw the display of pictures, I remembered Paul, right away. I often wondered what had become of the kids I grew up with.

After reading his extensive obituary, I learned that Paul had been a law enforcement officer. He solved many high profile cases, involving drug dealers, serial killers, and many other dangerous situations. My Mom said, "He did a lot in his 51 years". I found out today, who Paul had become: A hero!

2 Corinthians 1: 5 - "For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows." In The Quest Study Bible, we read: "Our suffering is, in fact, a link to Jesus Christ. Because Jesus lives within us, He shares the pains, the sorrows, and frustrations we feel." In joining us in our suffering, He offers us His comfort. We will never have to go through tough times alone. He is always with us. This past weekend, I gave two concerts at the Veterans Hospital in Lyons, NJ. I am always amazed at the cheerfulness of these vets. After all they have been through, the pain and suffering they have seen, and dealing with their own injuries and illnesses, they are still the most cheerful group of people, I have ever seen! I think I get more out of it, than they do! The jokes, the smiles, never stop. One of the volunteers was asking one vet, John, about his experiences in WW II. He was so modest about his service, and kept smiling, and interrrupting with jokes and laughter. I can't imagine what he saw in the war, but sitting there today, in that wheelchair, I saw a man with honor, integrity, and bravery. The vets belted out Amazing Grace, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, and than listened to my solos, too - - Ave Maria, God Bless the USA, and for St. Patrick's Day, songs like, Danny Boy. What an honor it is , to sing for our veterans! Nancy Scharfftag:nancyscharff.com,2005:Post/603802010-02-15T21:30:00-05:002010-02-15T21:30:00-05:00Haiti SongWe've all been effected by the tragedy in Haiti. Last month, I was away in Florida for a bike marathon. After riding 100 miles, I was exhausted, went back to my hotel room, and wanted nothing more, than to sleep! I turned on the TV, and the news was on, about Haiti. At home, I was following the news reports, but while I was away, I could focus even more, on the events of the day. I think what touched me the most, was the connection with a news reporter -- he was showing the devastation, and suddenly, his voice cracked, and he couldn't go on. I will never forget the images of those people suffering, as the reporter showed the horrid scenes. When I returned home, I was working on a concert for King of Kings School, our church's Christian School. I needed new songs for the children, so I decided to write a song for Haiti. Would these 3, 4 and 5 year olds understand? They may not have understood every detail, but they did feel compassion toward the people of Haiti. They understood that when people are hungry- - they need food; when they are thirsty -- they need water; when they lose their home...they need shelter. It's so simple for adults - -- yet, hearing it from these children, brought a new and fresh significance to the situation. How fragile life is -- and what hope we have in Christ, when we learn to trust Him! Nancy Scharff
