Every year, the VFW Hall in Cliffwood Beach, honors our military with a ceremony, than serves refreshments afterwards. For me, personally, it is an opportunity to remember and honor my friends' son, Lance Corporal Phillip Frank. Roy & Georgette Frank lost their son in Iraq, in 2004. Phillip was a marine, serving our country. I remember talking to Roy & Georgette, about Phillip's training to become a marine, and how much he wanted to make a difference in the lives of the people of Iraq. He was inspired to join the marines, shortly after the 9/11 attacks, wanting to serve and protect our country. When he lost his life in Iraq, Georgette asked me to sing at his funeral. When I asked how she was doing, her first words to me were,
"Nancy...there are no words". I decided to write a song for his funeral, using Georgette's words, "There Are No Words". You can read more about Phillip, and hear the song, on Phillip's page: www.nancyscharff.com/phillipfrank.cfm
Roy & Georgette also created a foundation, in Phillip's honor, to help our military. It is called, "The Heart of a Marine Foundation". From helping the wounded, to providing scholarships to military families, the foundation is touching many lives: www.heartofamarine.org/home.aspx
May we never forget our armed forces. Every day is Memorial Day!
