God & Country Patriotic Concert

About the God & Country Concert
Benefit for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation

Nancy Scharff began giving patriotic concerts in July, 1997, at The Boardwalk Pavilion, Ocean Grove, NJ, for The Gospel Music Ministries Series.  For 11 years, Nancy gave her God & Country Concert in Ocean Grove, for the 4th of July weekend.  In 1998, her patriotic concert was given at the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, as a Lutheran Brotherhood benefit. The money raised would help build the Youth Temple in Ocean Grove.  After 11 years, the schedule changed, and Nancy was no longer able to give her patriotic concert at The Boardwalk Pavilion in Ocean Grove.  However, the interest in the concert grew over the 11 year period, and the attendance reached over 400 people on the boardwalk, and over 500 people in the Great Auditorium.

Nancy decided to move her God & Country Concert to her home church, King of Kings Lutheran Church, in Middletown. Her mission was not only to continue giving the patriotic concert, but to help others.   She wanted to do a benefit concert, and chose a local charity, The Emmanuel Cancer Foundation.   Nancy had established a relationship with the foundation when she released her first CD, entitled Don’t Look Back – portions of the sales were given to the foundation. Members of King of Kings Lutheran Church and the Ecumenical Choir, have also had a long standing relationship with the organization, and know first hand the tremendous work they do, helping children who have cancer, and their families.

When Nancy brought her concert to King of Kings, she wanted to include The Ecumenical Choir for her God & Country Concert. The Ecumenical Choir is made up of choral singers from many churches in the Monmouth County area, including Calvary Baptist Church, Matawan, Pilgrim Baptist Church, Red Bank, King of Kings Lutheran Church, Middletown, Westminster Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church, Atlantic Highlands, New Monmouth Baptist Church, Freehold Baptist Church, Church of St. Ann, Middletown Reformed Church, Rumson Presbyterian Church, Leonardo Baptist, St. Clements Episcopal Church, St. John’s United Methodist Church, Hazlet, Calvary Chapel, Old Bridge, and many others.  We are grateful for the support these volunteer singers have given to this benefit concert.

Special thanks to the people of King of Kings Lutheran Church for the use of the sanctuary, and for their love and support.
